How is it possible to share the same planet when humans see other creatures, like animals, as inferior? This view often leads to the exploitation of animals for our benefit, whether for food, clothing, entertainment, or scientific research. Because of this, animals face harsh realities and must adapt in surprising ways just to survive in a world dominated by humans.

First, many animals suffer due to human actions. For instance, factory farming treats animals like products rather than living beings. Animals are often kept in cramped, dirty conditions, which can lead to suffering and distress. This lack of compassion stems from the belief that animals are lesser than humans. Many prioritize profit over animal welfare instead of seeing them as fellow creatures deserving of respect.

Second, The cruelty of human actions has forced some animals to evolve just to survive. The first example is the elephants. Due to poaching, where hunters kill elephants for their valuable tusks, some elephants are born without tusks. These tuskless elephants have a better chance of survival because poachers are less likely to target them. This change demonstrates how human greed can shape the lives of animals. In addition, some animals are also adapting to noisy environments in cities. Urban birds, for instance, have started to chirp at higher frequencies to be heard over the sounds of traffic and construction. This adaptation shows how animals are trying to communicate and thrive despite the chaos humans create around them. The final example is urban moths. In polluted areas, darker moths are becoming more common because they blend in better with the soot-covered surfaces. This change helps them avoid predators. However, it also highlights how pollution caused by humans can force animals to change their appearance just to survive.

Lastly, some wild animals have become less afraid of humans. For example, coyotes and wolves have become more domesticated.

As cities expand into their habitats, these animals learn to navigate urban areas for food. This change can lead to conflicts between humans and wildlife as animals venture closer to homes and neighborhoods. While it shows their adaptability, it also raises concerns about safety and the impact of human expansion on wildlife.

Humans often treat animals brutally and unthinkingly. Many animals are forced to adapt to survive in a harsh and unforgiving world. It is essential to recognize that animals have value and feelings. By fostering empathy and understanding, we can work towards a more compassionate relationship with [other animals/neighbors/co-habitants of the same planet] the animal kingdom. It’s time to remember that we share this planet with these incredible creatures, and they deserve our respect and protection.
